If you are reading this article it is probable that you aren't hugely familiar with how the functions of your Rolex work; that can lead to nerves, unsteady hands and sometimes your watch being dropped. So before you start Setting your Rolex 69173 we suggest laying a soft mat on the work surface you are going to sit it. When you are comfortably sat down, take your watch off and lay it flat on the mat infront of you. Ensure there aren't and drinks near by that could get spilled over your watch. And lastly make sure you are hands are clean and dry.
To set the date on your new Rolex unscrew(turn anti-clockwise) the crown enough that it vertically pops out. This first position into which your crown pops allows you to wind the watch, we will come back to that later. To set the date you gently pull the crown out one position until you feel it pop. If you wind the crown clockwise in this position the date shown in the date window will start to increment. Set the date to the date before the actual date. So if it is the 8th set the date to the 7th and move to the next step of setting your watch, "Setting the Time".
Start by gently pulling the crown out one more position than it was in when you were setting the date. Start setting the time by moving the crown in the clockwise position keeping an eye on the date ; when the date changes to the current date, you are now ready to set the time, the first rotating of the hands around the dial are AM times, the second rotation are the PM times. Set your time as accurately as possible. Your second hand will still be at the position it was in when you started the setting process and won't begin moving again until you close your crown again. This allows you to set the time exactly, essentially only pushing the crown in when the second hand, the minute hand and the hour hand are all exactly where they should be.
Winding a Rolex should be done intermetently but definitely when it has been off your wrist for a period of time or when you get it first. To wind your watch you unscrew the crown and once it has popped out to its first position you should wind your watch by rotating the crown clockwise roughly 40 times. When you are finished winding your watch gently push the crown in while at the same time winding the crown clockwise. Make sure you tighten but don't over tighten your watch.
Always close the crown after setting the time/date. Leaving it open could have devastating consquences for your watches movement.
